Full course description
This 16-week program focuses on the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to handle international commercial arbitral cases either as counsel or arbitrator, both from the substantive and procedural law standpoint.
The program explores different issues arising in the conduct of international arbitrations and the making and enforcement of arbitral awards by focusing on arbitration awards, court decisions in the area of arbitration, the interaction between national courts and international arbitral tribunals, national arbitration statutes, international arbitration treaties and the arbitral rules of leading international arbitration institutions.
This online program is an extension of the Center on International Commercial Arbitration at AUWCL and is directed by Professor Horacio A. Grigera Naón, independent international arbitrator and former secretary general of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce.

Refunds:
The following is the refund policy for this Washington College of Law course registered through our Professional and Lifelong Learning Portal (https://american.catalog.instructure.com/).
Participants registered for in-person and/or synchronous courses will be eligible for a refund if the course is dropped and a refund is requested one business day prior to the program start. In case a refund is requested, the net funds returned will be the tuition minus 4%.
Learners registered for on-demand courses without a start date will be eligible for a refund if the course is dropped and a refund is requested within 24 hours of registration and when there is no record of page views or participation in the Canvas Platform.
Refund requests will be denied if requested later than one day before an in-person and or synchronous course’s start date, 24 hours after registration in the case of on-demand courses without a start date, or when there is a record of page views or participation in the canvas Platform for an on-demand course.
Payments and fees:
For payments with credit cards, debit cards or bank accounts, the tuition cost includes a non-refundable 4% administrative fee. In case an eligible refund is requested, the net funds returned will be the tuition minus 4%.
Payment Processor:
The payment processing platform for this course is PayPal. Under certain circumstances, PayPal may offer different payment options and methods that might include installment plans. Any payment agreements reached, payment options, and/or installment plans will only be between the learner and PayPal.
Notice about AU Non-Credit Courses:
Non-credit courses are not recorded in American University transcripts. No credit is earned from these courses and grades are not posted. Learners enrolled in Non-Credit courses will not receive an AU ID or have access to services and or facilities reserved for AU students. Access to the AU library system will be available to all members of the greater Washington DC area through visitor services.
